How to apply for Online Passport?
Step 1: Passport Services
Go to the official website of Passport Seva (link) and click on ‘Y APPLY’ section.
Enter the login ID and password. Enter the captcha code and click ‘Register’.
Step 2: Select application type
After logging in, you have to select the service related to the given options. You can choose to apply for one:
Fresh passport/passport reissue
Diplomatic Passport / Official Passport
Police Clearance Certificate (PCC)
Identity certificate
Step 3: Passport Application Form Filling
Both online or offline steps can be followed to fill the application form. To fill the application form offline, follow the steps given below:
Download the application form.
Download related form based on your application form:
Fresh / Re-application
Police permit certificate
Diplomat / Officer
Identity certificate
Fill the application e-form and click on the form ‘Upload e-form’ link.
Upload the filled application form.
You can also fill the application form online and submit it. You can partially fill the form and complete the process at a later date. It is worth checking the form once before submitting it.
Step 4: Schedule an appointment.
After filling and submitting the form, you have to schedule the appointment at your nearest Passport Seva Kendra (PSK) or the concerned passport authority.
Appointment booking can be done as described below:
Go to ‘Applicant Home’ page and click on Save / Submitted application.
Click on ‘Pay and Schedule Appointments’ from the given options.
Next, choose the mode of payment from the given two, ie. Online payment and invoice payment.
Note: If paying for immediate appointments, the online passport fee is the same as a regular passport fee. The remaining amount is to be paid to PSK on the appointment date.
If you are paying online, you can book an appointment immediately. If you choose to pay by invoice, you will need to do the following:
Take the challan to the SBI branch and pay the required amount in cash. (Note: This can be done only after 3 hours of invoice generation, which is valid for 85 days.)
Next, collect a copy of the challan from the receiving bank personnel.
The bank takes 2 days to verify the ARN details given on the invoice.
Successful payment of fees will be displayed after verification of the website, where the applicant can ‘track payment status’. An email update is also sent.
Fixed appointment in passport
On the ‘Salary and Schedule Appointments’ page, select the PSK of your choice.
Confirm your appointment slot by entering a captcha code.
Next, choose ‘Salary and Book Placement’
Application details such as ARN, name, type of application, amount to be paid, contact number and appointment date will be displayed.
If you have chosen to pay online, you will be sent to the payment gateway.
On successful completion of payment, you will receive appointment confirmation and an appointment number. An SMS with details will be sent to your mobile number. Application print a copy of that receipt. All PSKs now accept SMS for appointment proof which you have received on your mobile number.
If multiple payments are made for a single appointment / application / ARN, the additional amount will be refunded by the RPO. Passport appointment can be rescheduled twice within one year from the date of original appointment. However, if you missed the appointment, you were canceling the appointment.
How to apply online diplomatic passport / official passport.
The clues given below will help guide the applicants applying online for official or diplomatic passports –
- Go to the official website of Passport Seva Kendra and click on the official Register Now link.
- On doing so, they will be given an ID that should be used to login to the Passport Seva online portal.
- After this, applicants have to click on the link ‘Attic Diplomat for Diplomatic Passport’.
- After doing this, the required form has to be downloaded, filled, and submitted along with the necessary documentary proof.
- After this, the printout of the filled application/print view/print submit form will have to be taken through the link which is available on the saved/submitted application page.
This printed copy of the online passport application form along with original documents along with the current address and required documents will have to be taken to the New Delhi Passport Office, Patiala House, New Delhi Passport Office.

1. Counter A
As you enter, enter your token number in the booth according to the monitor that displays.
Your documents will be reviewed. Unnecessary documents will be returned. Required documents will be scanned and uploaded on the Passport Seva (PSP) portal.
You will then be given a print-out of your uploaded personal information, which you will need to review and sign. This verified information has also been scanned and uploaded to the portal.

Your original documents will be verified once again.
3. Counter C
Grant officer approves passport issuance
This is where a passport is accepted or rejected.
The ‘granted’ status indicates that the passport has been approved.
Police verification status is determined here i.e. passport will be given after police verification or police verification
4. Exit Counter – Acknowledgment Letter
It is given to you at the exit counter. Make sure that this letter is kept safely because it will contain details that you can use to track the status of your application.
This will be whether your passport application is approved or not.
This will be the mode for police verification such as Pre Police Verification, Post Police Verification and No Police Verification.
From PSK, the application process is transferred to the Passport Office (PO), where all back-end processing will take place. The Passport Officer will communicate with the state police for police verification (PV). The Passport Officer will also take care of issuing, printing, laminating and sending approved passports.

After successfully processing your application, the process of issuing and then printing your passport begins. So how long will it take to send the passport? Passports are sent through Speed Post to India Post which you can track on India Post’s website. It is sent to the current address of the applicant. As an applicant, you should preferably obtain a passport from the postman.

How to register a passport.
Step by step procedure for passport registration.
- Go to the official passport service website of the government, www.passportindia.gov.in.
- On the left pane, there are four options in different colors – green, orange, blue and yellow.
- Click on the orange button, which says new user? register now.
- A form opens which has to be filled.
- By default, radio button is clicked in Passport Office. However, for official / diplomatic passport in consular, select option “CPV Delhi”.
- For the field “Passport Office”, select the city name according to the residential address.
- In the “Name” field, enter the first name and middle name.
- In the next field, enter the last / last name.
- Enter the date of birth in the format: DD / MM / YYYY.
- Enter the email address.
- The next part involves processing the login ID. For this, either a new ID can be created or the login ID can be the same as the email ID.
- Enter the password, which must contain at least one uppercase alphabet (A-Z) or lowercase alphabet (A-Z) and a number (0-9). The combination must have a minimum of 8 characters and a maximum of 14 characters.
- Re-enter password for confirmation.
- Select a hint question from the drop-down menu and enter your answer in the corresponding box.
- Enter captcha code and click on Register button.

You can track the status of your passport application offline in the following ways, that is, you can know:
National Call Center: Call the toll-free number of National Call Centers on 18002581800 and talk to a Civil Services Executive from 8:00 am to 10 pm to get updates about the status of your application. The Automated Interactive Voice Response (IVRS) facility available 24/7 can also be used during non-work hours.
SMS: To update the status of your application send the following SMS from your registered mobile number (the one listed on your passport application form): Status File Number 9704100100

Police Clearance Certificate-PCC-Police Clearance Certificate
Police Clearance Certificate (PCC) Indian citizens are issued passports to go abroad for the purpose of employment, long term stay or residential stay. People going abroad on a tourist visa cannot apply for PCC from Indian authorities.
Currently, there are 17 countries that have been designated as Migration Check Required (ECR) countries due to their relatively liberal rules regarding entry and employment of foreign nationals. To protect citizens especially from undue stress arising from wrongful employment, Migration Check Not Required or ECNR status is mandatory for non-tourist visas required to travel to the states below.

Online PCC application submission is a simple process. Following steps are given below:
Register on the Passport Seva Portal and login to your account.
Click on Apply for Police Clearance Certificate link.
